Introduction
Kampala occupies an unusual place in Uganda’s small UFO record. Most of the country’s publicly traceable reports between independence and the end of the twentieth century came from or near the capital rather than from remote regions. Yet the surviving cases are notable less because they suggest extraordinary craft and more because they show how unusual sky events were interpreted in a city with limited astronomical reporting infrastructure, uneven media coverage, and few formal investigation channels.

This scarcity matters because Kampala’s UFO history is not a story of hundreds of reports revealing a pattern. It is a story of a few surviving incidents that became representative simply because almost nothing else was documented.
The 1962 Meteor-Framed Report
The earliest widely cited Kampala case dates to August 1962, only weeks before Uganda formally achieved independence. A report circulated through the UFO-oriented publication Look-See described a large unidentified object observed over Kampala during the night of 7 August 1962. Why the case remains difficult to evaluate

Several problems limit analysis:

- No known photographic evidence.

Because the report involved repeated appearances, some possibilities differ from those considered for a one-time meteor event. The result is not a confirmed anomaly but an unresolved report with insufficient evidence for a firm conclusion.
